William "Bill" Swale, 83 of Durand, Illinois died at 8:39 am Saturday Jan 30, 2010 in Rockford Memorial Hospital. \r\r\n\r\r\n Born January 22, 1927 in Durand, Illinois, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Otto and Evelyn (Bergum) Swale. Bill graduated from Durand Community High School, Class of 1944. He then entered the U.S. Army serving as a radio operator during World War II. After being discharged he worked as an electrician and then he took over the family farm. Married to Jean Lewis in Stillman Valley on August 11, 1951. Member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Durand, Illinois, Winnebago County Farm Bureau, Durand American Legion Gold Star Post 676 and served on the Leona Township Board. He enjoyed hunting, gardening, bowling and his fishing. \r\r\n\r\r\n Survivors include wife Jean of Durand, Illinois; daughter Ellen (Tom) Rice of Lena, Illinois, Marilyn (Terry) Janes of Byron, Illinois, Julie (Brad) Lucas of Davidson, North Carolina; grandchildren Mike (Lori) Gann, Amy (Tim Adams) Gann, Jason, Joshua and Jordan Janes, David and Jill Lucas; great grandchildren Colton, MacKenzie Gann, Timmy and Christopher Adams; step grandchildren Kim (Brian) Daws, Angie (Carl) Meyer; sister Joan Metz of Monroe, Wisconsin and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. \r\r\n\r\r\n Funeral ceremonies will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 3, 2010 in Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. R. Lee Bennight officiating. Burial will be at Durand Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 2 at McCorkle Funeral Home 101 Main St Durand, IL and from 9:00 am to time of funeral on Wednesday at the church. \r\r\n\r\r\n In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church or the American Heart Association.
