Wayne T. Kammerer, 75, Rockford, IL, died at 6:50 p.m., Saturday, May 21, 2016 at Bickford in Rockford, IL after a lengthy illness.\r\r\n\r\r\n Born November 12, 1940 in Pecatonica, IL, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Warren Louis and Lois Amelia (Campbell) Kammerer. Graduated from Pecatonica High School, Class of 1958, University of IL with an undergraduate degree and University of CA-Berkley with a master’s degree. Married the former Karen D. Stone in Richfield, Utah on May 25, 1984. Retired US Army Colonel, he worked for the Bureau of Land Management and Defense Intelligence Agency. Served in Vietnam and active duty in the first Gulf War. He was a past Exalted Ruler of the Elks and former Moose Lodge member. His faith served many different denominations.\r\r\n\r\r\n Survivors include his wife, Karen Kammerer, Yuma, AZ; son, Wayne T. (Heather) Kammerer, Jr., Bronx, NY; step daughter, Nichol (Michael) Eames, Menan, ID, step son, John Shrope, IV, Fredericksburg, VA; eight step grandchildren; one step great grandchild; brother, Warren (Virginia) Kammerer, II, St. Charles, IL; sister, Nellie Runne, Rockford, IL; brother, James Kammerer, Pecatonica, IL; sisters, Joan Lindquist and Phyllis Peterson, both of Rockford, IL and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Katherine Bradley and Marjorie Castree.\r\r\n\r\r\n Memorial ceremonies will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 26, 2016 in McCorkle Funeral Home-Pecatonica Chapel, 203 W Fifth Street, Pecatonica, IL. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, May, 25, 2016. Final resting place will be in Pecatonica Cemetery, Pecatonica, IL. Cremation rites will be accorded. \r\r\n\r\r\n A memorial will be established.
