Phillip J. Dion Jr., 92 of Woodstock, Illinois, formerly of Rockton,Illinois, passed away September 19, 2009 surrounded by his loving family at Hospice of Northeastern Illinois. \r\r\n\r\r\n Born May 2, 1917 in Rockford, Illinois, the son of Phillip J. and Myrtle (Manning) Dion, Sr. Phillip married Joanne Ballard on December 28, 1940 in Clinton, Iowa. After raising their six children in Fox Lake, Illinois, they moved to Arkdale, Wisconsin and enjoyed it for many years. They finally retired back to Rockton, Illinois for over 20 years. Phillip served in the U.S. Navy during WW II in Africa and Italy. \r\r\n\r\r\n He is survived by two daughters Mardele (Harold) Stewart of Arkdale, Wisconsin and Ginny (Bob) Arsenty of Woodstock, Illinois; two sons Steve (Geneva) Dion of Elsinore, Missouri and John Dion of California; 24 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandsons. Also surviving him is his son-in-law Harry Burmann of McHenry, Illinois and his daughter-in-law Nancy Kamm of Apple River Canyon, Illinois and beloved friends Tom and Jeannie Garafolo of Beloit, Wisconsin. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Joanne, brother Robert, sister Betty Pittenger, son James R and daughter Sally Burmann. \r\r\n\r\r\n A memorial ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 26, 2009 in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens Chapel in South Beloit, Illinois with Douglas Liston, Seminarian officiating. Cremation rites were accorded and a private entombment of the cremains will take place. In lieu of flowers please donate to the American Heart Association or your favorite charity.
