Mildred Roberta (Green) Bowman, loving mother and grandmother, 94, of Durand, Illinois, passed away at 6:45 p.m., Saturday, October 18, 2014, at Medina Manor Nursing Home. \r\r\n\r\r\n Born August, 6, 1920, the daughter of Robert and Maude (Recoy) Green. Graduated from Pecatonica High School. Attended Northern Illinois State Teacher’s College (now Northern Illinois University) at DeKalb. Obtained her teacher’s certificate and later graduated with a Bachelor’s in Education. Married the love of her life, Robert Bowman, at Court Street Methodist Church in Rockford, Illinois, on March 30, 1945. She taught at several local schools including Myrtle School, Pecatonica Schools, and Seward Elementary School, from which she retired in 1982. She had a lifelong love of learning and maintained contact with some of her students into their adulthood. Enjoyed visiting with family and friends, and corresponding with them. She was blessed her entire lifetime with a host of good friends. Other interests included gardening, sewing, flowers, taking drives around the country, hunting mushrooms in the springtime, and keeping up on current events. Former member of Inter Se, Durand United Methodist Church, and Northern Illinois Teachers’ Association. \r\r\n\r\r\n Survivors include a son; Bob (Linda) Bowman, Waynesville, Missouri; granddaughter, Betsy Marie (Matt) Johnson and great-grandsons, Bryan Matthew and Benjamin Thomas Johnson, all of Crocker, Missouri; brother, Bob (Pat) Green, Pecatonica, Illinois and numerous nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert Bowman Sr., son Tom, brother Fred Green, sister-in-law Dorothy Green, sister Betty Halley and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to give special thanks to the nurses and staff at Medina Manor Nursing Home and Hospice Care of America for their care, comfort, love and kindness. Their actions are gratefully appreciated by Mildred Bowman's family. God bless each one of you. \r\r\n\r\r\n Private graveside services will be held. Cremation rites will be accorded.
