Martha Rose Slankard, 85, of Rockton, IL formerly of Belvidere, IL died at 9:12 a.m. Friday, October 18, 2013 in Maple Crest Care Centre. Born June 12, 1928 in Radley, Kansas to Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth and Maudie Corn. Married to Eugene Harold Slankard in Arma, Kansas on June 15, 1946. Lived in the Belvidere, IL area since 1988. Employed as a secretary by Robert Crown Grade School. A member of the Altar and Rosary at Transfiguration Church, Wauconda. Loved sewing, and had a gift of \r\r\n\r\r\ngab.\r\r\n\r\r\nSurvivors include daughter, Geri Lynn (Jeffrey) Pence of Rockton, IL; son, David Slankard of South Beloit, IL; grandchildren, Christopher (Jessica) Offenwanger, Nicholas Offenwanger, Noah Pence, Zachary Pence, Maggie (Shawn) Williams; great grandchild, Rhyan Jane Offenwanger; sister, Pam (Larry) McFall; and several beloved nieces and nephews. Preceded by her husband, Eugene; sister, Leota Ann Little; and brothers, Walter “Punk” Corn, and Edgar “Bud” Corn.\r\r\n\r\r\nMass of the Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 25, 2013 in St. Peter Catholic Church, 620 Blackhawk Blvd. South Beloit, with Father Steven M. Sabo officiating. Prayers will be at 9:30 a.m. in McCorkle Funeral Home, 767 N. Blackhawk Blvd. Rockton, Friday. Burial in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens, South Beloit. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. Thursday in McCorkle Funeral Home, with a rosary service at 7:00 p.m.
