Marcia Louise Highland- Newburg, 85, died at 12:15 p.m. on Friday, July 24, 2009, in Durand after a brief stay at Medina Nursing Center. \r\r\n\r\r\n Born March 31, 1924 to Mr. and Mrs. Morton and Marie Hartman in Durand, Illinois. Lived 65 years in Durand, Illinois, then 20 years in Pecatonica, Illinois. Married Richard Highland in Durand, Illinois on February 23, 1946, he died January 21, 1977, she then married Laverne Newburg on July 17, 1987, he died October 8, 2000. Employed as postmaster of Rock City for 7 years and was a member of the St. Mary Catholic Church of Pecatonica, Illinois. She was a teacher, Durand Village Treasurer for 21 years, secretary to supervisor of Pecatonica Township for 12 years, worked in Postal System for 22 years, and loved spending time with family, friends, playing cards, watching the Cubs, and gardening flowers. Graduated from Durand High School, Class of 1942. \r\r\n\r\r\n Survivors include, sons; Tom (Rebecca) Highland, Columbia, MO, Dan Highland, Cherry Valley, Illinois, David (Margaret) Highland, Shabonna, Illinois, Patrick (Dennis Schrag) Highland, Iowa City, Iowa daughters; Sue (Jeff) Pettera, Rockford, Illinois, Mary Jane (Alan) Furman, Rockford, Illinois, Ann (Mike) Eaton, Fenton, Missouri, Lisa (David) Wilsey, Durand, Illinois; 23 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; step-children Marcia (Paul) Seaton, JoAnn (Lloyd) Boeke, Lavonne (Jeff) Bell; six step-grandchildren; 12 step-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Jane Blackmer, Kathleen Hines and brother John Hartman. \r\r\n\r\r\n Funeral Mass of Christian Burial held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Pecatonica, Illinois, with Msgr. Thomas Monahan officiating. Burial at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Durand, Illinois. Visitation to be held at 4:00 to 8:00p.m. on Monday, July 27, 2009 at McCorkle Funeral Home, Durand, Illinois, 101 Main Street. \r\r\n\r\r\n Memorials have been established to Hospice Care of America.
