Jim L. Ryder, 71, Lake Summerset, Illinois died at 4:03 a.m., Saturday, July 31, 2010 in his home after a courageous battle with cancer. Born October 25, 1938 in Benton Harbor, Michigan, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Lewis and Hazel Ruth (Peterson) Raypholtz. Wilbur died in 1941 and Hazel then married James T. Ryder who adopted the children. Jim married the former Ruth Ann Squires in Onondaga, Michigan on October 6, 1961. He was employed as a diesel truck mechanic by Ford Motor Company, retiring on February 1, 2001. Attended Indian Grove Country Church in Rock City, Illinois. Member of Land of Lincoln Theater Organ Society, was an amateur ham radio operator whose call letters were KA9CHQ, a classic car buff owning a ’51 Mercury. He was a proud grandfather and enjoyed emailing his many friends. Graduated from East Lansing High School in Lansing, Michigan and Greer Tech in Chicago, Illinois. \r\r\n\r\r\n Survivors include: wife Ruth Ryder, Lake Summerset, Illinois; daughters Kimberly (Jeffrey) Rio, Poplar Grove, Illinois, Robin (William) Mazzuca, Belvidere, Illinois and Lori Rio, Freeport, Illinois; grandchildren Jake, Sammy, Jim, Zach, Matthew, Amanda, Emmaly, Joey and Dommy; brother Lewis A. (Gail) Ryder; LaPlace, Louisiana and many wonderful neighbors and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister and brother in law Mary Lou and Ronald Larkins. \r\r\n\r\r\n Funeral ceremonies will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, August 5, 2010 in Indian Grove Country Church 6970 IL Route 75 E Rock City, Illinois with Pastor Paul Lamm officiating. Burial in Durand Cemetery, Durand, Illinois. A visitation will be held at McCorkle Funeral Home 101 Main St Durand, Illinois from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm Wednesday.
