Herbert “Ole” Abrahamson, 88, died 7:50 a.m. Thursday, July 16, 2009 peacefully in his South Beloit home. \r\r\n\r\r\n Born March 16, 1921 in Galesburg, Illinois, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert and Adelia (Jansen) Abrahamson. Married Muriel Jones in 1941 and she died in 1966, he then married Ferne Sperry in Galesburg, Illinois on August 30, 1970. Employed in customer service by Out Board Marine in Beloit for 32 years. Veteran of WWII serving as a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force 387th Bombardment Group where he was a B-26 pilot flying 71 missions. He was an instructor for the B-26 after the war. He was awarded with the 12 Oak Leaf Cluster medal and the Distinguished Flying Cross. Member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Beloit, Wisconsin; South Beloit American Legion Post #288; Flyers Club and was an avid bowler and golfer and enjoyed playing poker. \r\r\n\r\r\n Survivors include wife; Ferne Abrahamson, South Beloit, Illinois and daughter Kay (James) Kallas, Sacramento, California, He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters. \r\r\n\r\r\n Memorial ceremonies will be held at 5:00 p.m. Sunday, July 19, 2009 at McCorkle Funeral Home , 767 N. Blackhawk Blvd, Rockton, Illinois with Pastor Erik Jelinek of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church officiating. Final resting place will be Oaklawn Cemetery in Galesburg, Illinois. Cremation rites to be accorded. \r\r\n\r\r\n Memorials have been established to Beloit Regional Hospice or charity of your choice.
