Clifford R. Holmes, 99, of Naperville formerly of rural Rockford died at 6:23 a.m. Thursday, September 19, 2013 in Sunrise Senior Living, Naperville. Born September 25, 1913 in Ogle County, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin and Mable (Richardson) Holmes. Married to the former Esther Marie Ekanger in Owen Township on February 19, 1938. Employed as a farmer until he retired at age 77; also sold insurance for Burritt Mutual for many years. A member of Owen Center Methodist Church, Winnebago County Farm Bureau, and Owen Center Grange. He served on the schools boards for Pleasantview, Canada, and Hononegah Highschools where he acted as secretary and president. He was also an avid reader. Graduated from Hononegah High School Class of 1930.\r\r\n\r\r\nSurvivors include daughters, Evelyn (Jack) Kinton of N. Aurora, IL, Lucille (Roy) Beckwith of Calgary, Alberta, Karen (Bob) Snyder of Naperville; grandchildren, Daryl (Lori) Kinton, Keith Kinton, Jim Beckwith, Laurel Beckwith, Tania (Jamie) Stori, Mark (Holly) Snyder, Christiana (Chris) Gambill; great grandchildren, Jaelyn and Kyli Kinton, and Maya and Matthew Stori; sister in law, Vivian Holmes; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded by parents; wife; and brother, Eldon.\r\r\n\r\r\nFuneral ceremonies will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 23, 2013 in McCorkle Funeral Home- Rockton Chapel, 767 N. Blackhawk Blvd., with Pastor Mark Alvis of Union Congregational Church, N. Aurora, officiating. Burial in Owen Center Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held in the funeral home from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the Rockford Rescue Mission or Salvation Army.
