Christian J. Boehlefeld, 72, Davis, Illinois, died at 12:38 p.m., Sunday, May 9, 2010 in Rockford Memorial Hospital after a short illness. \r\r\n\r\r\n Born June 20, 1937 in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl F. and Emma Louise (Malinosky) Boehlefeld. He married Carol Kurtz of Cleveland and later married the former Sharon Polancic in Rockford, Illinois on December 5, 1980. He graduated from St. Stephen Grade School and West Technical High School, both in Cleveland. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Wittenburg University in Springfield, Ohio, where he was also an assistant coach for the 1960-61 basketball team that won the NCAA small school championship. He was a member of Beta Theta Pi. He later earned a master’s degree in education counseling at Northern Illinois University. For most of his life, he was a teacher, first in Ohio and then at Durand Community School in Durand, Illinois. “Coach Bo” was head boys and girls varsity basketball coach during his career there and helped to coach other sports teams. He advised academic bowl teams, as well as CLOWNS and other peer-help student groups. He was honored for his participation in the Boone-Winnebago Regional Tech Prep and KIDS Care programs. After his retirement from Durand High School in 2001, he remained active as a substitute teacher, primarily at Winnebago High School. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Durand, Illinois. \r\r\n\r\r\n Survivors include wife, Sharon Boehlefeld, Davis, Illinois; his children, Laurie, Cleveland, Ohio, Renae, Medina, Ohio, Anna, Chris Jr., and Johnny, all of Davis, Illinois; his grandchildren Carolyn Mooney and Eddie Groening, both of Medina, Ohio and Connie and Joslyn Schultz, Davis, Illinois; sister Agnes Knox, Elyria Ohio; brother James of Cleveland, Ohio and a large extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents. \r\r\n\r\r\n Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 13, 2010 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 602 West Main, Durand, Illinois with Msgr. Eric Barr, pastor, officiating. Cremation rites will be accorded. A private burial will be held at a later date. Visitation will be held at McCorkle Funeral Home, 101 Main Street, Durand, Illinois from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 12, with a scripture service to be held at 6:45p.m. Prayers will be recited at 9:00 a.m. at the funeral home Thursday.
