Catherine Ann Agnew Matheson, 71, of Rockton died June 7, 2011 at 11:00AM in the University of Wisconsin Hospital, Madison, WI after a valiant fight against multiple myeloma. \r\r\n\r\r\n Cathy was born December 5, 1939 in Swedish American Hospital, Rockford, IL, the daughter of Frank Chester and Catherine May Rose Agnew. Cathy graduated from Harlem High School in 1958. She married James F. Matheson on November 10, 1962. \r\r\n\r\r\n Cathy lived and worked her entire life in the Rockford area. She worked for the executives of Swedish American Hospital after high school and before her marriage. She spent twenty plus years working as the Administrative Assistant for the Surgery Department at Rockford Memorial Hospital, retiring in 2005. Since then, Cathy was the secretary for First Congregational Community Church in Roscoe, IL. She enjoyed writing and editing the monthly newsletter, the weekly bulletin, and keeping the pastor on task. \r\r\n\r\r\n Cathy enjoyed people a great deal. She loved mailing her dearest friends and relatives cards for all the various holidays, anniversaries, and birthdays. She was an active member of First Congregational Community Church in Roscoe, IL and Union Grange. She served various positions at Union Grange, including that of Master, during her twenty plus year membership. \r\r\n\r\r\n Cathy leaves behind her husband, Jim, Rockton, IL; sons James Frederick, Jr., his wife, Wendy, and grandcat Sparky of Franklin, WI; David Scott, his wife Tracy, granddaughters Nikki and Jacki, and granddog Bailey of Rockford, IL; sister, Marian Doyle, Ketchikan, Alaska; sisters-in-law, Edith Matheson, Pecatonica, IL, and Janelle (Earl) Jupin, Lynn Haven, FL; nephews, Doug (Pam) Matheson, Robert (Kris) Matheson, Perry (Linda) Matheson, Tim (Barb) Matheson, Dave (Judy) Jupin, Kevin (Jan) Jupin, Jim (Candy) Jupin, Michael (Kathleen) Doyle, and numerous great-nieces and nephews. \r\r\n\r\r\n Cathy is predeceased by her parents, sisters, Frances May Agnew and Betty Jean Agnew, and brothers-in-law Robert L. Matheson and Barry Doyle. \r\r\n\r\r\n The family would like to thank all of Cathy’s caregivers during the past few months, in particular, Vincent Racanelli, MD; the nurses and staff on A3 at Rockford Memorial Hospital; John Sheehan, MD, and all the nurses, aides, and support staff at the University of Wisconsin Hospital, Madison, WI. \r\r\n\r\r\n Funeral ceremonies will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, June 11, 2011, in McCorkle Funeral Home, 767 N. Blackhawk Blvd, Rockton, with her nephew Rev. Jim Jupin officiating and Reverend Lisa Abb co-officiating of First Congregational Community Church. Visitation will be held from 5:00PM to 8:00PM Friday, June 10, 2011 in the funeral home. Internment in Willwood Cemetery. \r\r\n\r\r\n In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family in her name.
