Bonnie Jo Starnes, 74, Durand, Illinois died at 12:50 a.m., Thursday, July 21, 2011 in her own home after a lengthy illness. \r\r\n\r\r\n Born June 19, 1937 in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Alvin and Ilah (Edwards) Travis. Lived 55 years in the Durand and Rockford area, coming here from Arkansas. She married William H. Starnes, Jr in Imboden, Arkansas on August 12, 1956. Bonnie was a homemaker. She was a member of Durand United Methodist Church. Bonnie liked to camp and travel, loved her family, her grandchildren and great grandchild. She also loved sports. When she was young, she was made Allstate Player on her basketball team of which she was also captain. She graduated from Sloan-Hendrix Academy in Imboden, Arkansas. \r\r\n\r\r\n Survivors include husband William Starnes, Jr., Durand, Illinois; son William (Denise) Starnes, III, Davis, Illinois; daughter Frances (Daryl) Land, Davis, Illinois; son DeWayne (Serina) Starnes, Durand, Illinois; grandchildren William Starnes, IV, Denver, Colorado, Krista Starnes, Davis, Illinois, Richard (Tessa) Land, South Beloit, Illinois, Christina Land, Chicago, Illinois, Private 2nd Class Joseph Land, Fort Carson, Colorado, Cortney Starnes and Zachary Starnes both of Winnebago, Illinois, Nevada Starnes, Roscoe, Illinois and Jacob Starnes, Durand, Illinois; great grandson Aiden Land, South Beloit, Illinois; brother Donovan Travis, Kelso, Washington; sisters Corliss Arnone, Waynesville, Missouri, Fairy Ann Massey, Orange City, Florida and Arlyss DeClerk, Pocahontas, Arkansas and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Darrell Travis and Barney Travis and sister Beverly Zipperer. \r\r\n\r\r\n Funeral Ceremonies will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, July 25, 2011 in Durand United Methodist Church, 102 East Main Street, Durand, Illinois with Pastor Brian Channel officiating and Pastor Thomas Hardwick co-officiating. Burial will be in Durand Cemetery, Durand, Illinois. Visitation will be held at McCorkle Funeral Home 101 Main Street, Durand, Illinois from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m., Sunday, July 24, 2011. \r\r\n\r\r\n A memorial has been established to the Durand Athletic Association.
