Albert L. Gummow, 85, Rockton, Illinois, passed away peacefully in his sleep April 3, 2011 at Fair Oaks Rehabilitation Center. \r\r\n\r\r\n Born September 7, 1925, the son of Lester and Helen (Gleasman) Gummow. He attended Conklin School where he rode his pony to school. He was a graduate of Hononegah High School, Class of 1942. Married the former Elaine Wikel on September 1, 1948 in Beloit, Wisconsin. Albert was a pilot in his younger years, enjoyed traveling and had visited 49 states, was a Cubs fan and was always looking for a farm auction. He and Elaine were leaders of North Main Rustlers 4-H Club and together owned and operated Shirland Grain Co for 20 years along with a trucking business. Farming was his love and passion. He began his career using horses and finished with machinery using computers. He was happy when tractor radios became available so he could always enjoy the Cub games. His sparkling blue eyes and ready laugh were known throughout the area. \r\r\n\r\r\n He is survived by his wife and partner of 62 years, Elaine (Wicky) and children Sherre (Bill) Faulkner, Craig (Linda) Gummow, Brian (Jody) Gummow, all of Rockton, Illinois, and Lori (Phil Caltagerone) Gummow, Loves Park, Illinois; grandchildren Holly Froning, Joe Forrest, Kayla and Monica Gummow; great grandchildren Andrew and Rachel Froning, Corbin, Dalton and Logan Langholf and Angel and Lola Forrest. He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter Stacy Faulkner Langholf and good friend John Wishop. \r\r\n\r\r\n Funeral Ceremonies will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 8, 2011 in Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 2336 Freeport Road, Rockton, Illinois with Reverend Douglas Johnson, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Rockton Township Cemetery, 600 West Street, Rockton, Illinois. Visitation will be held at McCorkle Funeral Home, 767 N Blackhawk Blvd, Rockton, Illinois from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, April 7 and again from 9:00 a.m. until time of service Friday at the church. \r\r\n\r\r\n A memorial will be established.
