Rita C. Nielsen Obituary (1930 - 2014)

Rita C. Nielsen, 83, Lake Summerset, Illinois, died at 8:25 a.m., Friday, March 14, 2014 in her home after a courageous battle. Born July 19, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Max & Clara (Mueller) Richau. Married Kenneth Robert Nielsen in Franklin Park, Illinois on May 20, 1950. She was employed as a secretary by Dean Foods, then raised her family, then was part-owner in The Peanut Gallery in Des Plaines, Illinois and then produced art that was sold in various craft fairs. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Durand, Illinois and was an active member in the Lake Summerset Garden Club and Gram’s Club and various card clubs. She loved reading books. Survivors include daughter, Karen Nielsen, Illinois; sons, Kevin (Cynthia) Nielsen, California and Daniel (Laurie) Nielsen, North Carolina; daughter, Barbara (Greg) Rewerts, Illinois; grandchildren, Nicholas, Sean, Scott, Kayleigh, Sam, Hannah, Jake and Rita; sister, Esther Probst, Arizona; brother, Ernie (Diann) Richau, California; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Joe and Joann Hermann, Illinois and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Funeral ceremonies will be held at 11:30 a.m., Monday, March 17, 2014 in Trinity Lutheran Church, 15585 Durand Road, Durand, Illinois with Pastor Pat Esker officiating. Burial will be in Durand Township Cemetery, Durand, Illinois. McCorkle Funeral Home-Durand Chapel, 101 Main Street, Durand, Illinois assisted the family.
