Janice Palmer Obituary (1938 - 2020)

Janice Kay Palmer, 81, of Durand, IL passed away at 8:15 a.m., Sunday, February 9, 2020 at Medina Nursing Home in Durand with her husband by her side. She was born March 23, 1938 in Freeport, IL the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carroll and Margaret (Hoefle) Cooley. Janice married Robert Palmer in Forreston, IL on December 14, 1958. She attended country schools and graduated from Forreston High School, Class of 1956. In 1964, Bob and Janice moved to Durand, IL where they raised their family. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Durand. Janice was a hard-working farmer’s wife, working side by side with Bob till he retired in 2000. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was always available to help out. She was a fabulous cook and baker. Her pies, cookies and chicken and noodles were the grandchildren’s favorites. She always had a garden, canning and freezing what she grew. She volunteered as a cooking leader for the New England Belles 4-H Club in Durand, IL and was a FHA Chapter Mother. Janice and Bob belonged to a card club and enjoyed dancing and followed the Greg Anderson Band. Survivors include her husband, Robert; children Debra (Chuck) Winning, Lena, IL, Christine (Kurt) Michaelis, Durand, IL, David (Kathy) Palmer, Durand, IL and Jeffrey (Robin) Palmer, Durand, IL; 12 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; Bob’s Aunt Loretta Fry, Rockford, IL and nephew Scott (Kim) Cooley, Belvidere, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents, son Daniel and brother James. Funeral ceremonies will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 13, 2020 in Trinity Lutheran Church, 15585 Durand Road, Durand, IL with Sharon Beksel officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 12. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Cemetery, Freeport, IL.
