Henry Joseph Vandersypen Obituary (1922 - 2012)

Henry Joseph Vandersypen, 90, Rockton, Illinois, died at 10:25 a.m., Monday, June 4, 2012 in Alden-Meadow Park Nursing Center in Clinton, Wisconsin. He was born in Alexandria, Louisiana on April 22, 1922, one of 11 children to August and Orstance (Vanlangendonk) Vandersypen. Married Dorothy Narrow Bell on January 18, 1954 in Alexandria, Louisiana. He had one son, Harold Bell Vandersypen and his wife Janet and one daughter Anita Bell Vandersypen Patterson and her husband Russell of Rockton. Henry served in the Army from 1942 until 1965 having served in active duty in both WWII and the Korean Conflict. After retiring from the military, he worked for the State of Louisiana as a guard at the Louisiana Correctional School for Girls in Ball, Louisiana for 18 years, retiring in 1983. Henry and Dorothy moved to Rockton on September 18, 1988 to be with his daughter and her family. He attended the Church by the Side of the Road for the last 12 years and loved the family of friends there. A special thank you to his loving caregivers Annie Williamson and Pauline Hodges for all the special care they gave him; Beloit Hospice for the many hours of home care and love they gave to him, there are not enough words to say thank you; Alden Meadow Park Nursing Center for the special care the last ten days of his life, God Bless all of you and to his special buddies, Jerry Scott, Lonnie and the guys at Wendy’s in South Beloit, you were my special helpers. Survivors include his daughter Anita (Russell) Patterson, Rockton, Illinois; daughter-in-law Janet Vandersypen; grandchildren, Pamela (Doug) Schandelmeier, Machesney Park, Illinois, Deanna L. Patterson Adams Phillips, Rockton, Illinois, Sheri (Trace) Bedke, Burley, Idaho; great grandchildren, Daniel, Justin and Rhiannon Schandelmeier, Jennifer and Jessica Adams, Ciara and Chelsea Phillips, Tristen, Skylar and Xander Vandersypen and Ty Bedke; sister Margaret (Henry) Biggs, San Antonia, Texas and many nieces and nephews in Louisiana and Texas. He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy in February 1998, son Harold Bell Vandersypen in August 2008, grandsons Barry Keith Patterson in October 1986 and Kevin Wade Vandersypen in October 2007, his parents and nine brothers and sisters. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 18, 2012 in McCorkle Funeral Home, 767 N Blackhawk Blvd, Rockton, Illinois with Pastor Charles Waggoner, of Church by the Side of the Road officiating. Cremation rites were accorded. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 18.
