Floyd A. Thew, 80, Durand, Illinois died at 10:20 p.m., Monday, August 9, 2010 in Medina Manor Nursing Center after a lengthy illness. Born December 30, 1929 in Melrose Park, Illinois, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd and Dora (Carpenter) Thew. Lived 19 years in Durand, coming here from Addison, Illinois. Married the former Gloria Laing in Franklin Park, Illinois on October 15, 1955. He was employed as a data processor by Sears & Roebuck for 34 years. Veteran of the U.S. Navy. Member of Durand United Methodist Church, Durand American Legion Gold Star Post #676, Durand Lions, Durand Masonic Lodge AF & AM #302, where he was a past master and was a Sunday School teacher for 60 years. Graduated from Leyden High School, Franklin Park, Illinois Survivors include wife, Gloria Thew, Durand, Illinois; three sons William Thew, Colorado, Paul (Margaret) Thew, Wyoming and James (Kumiko) Thew, Machesney Park, Illinois; one daughter Jeannine (Joseph) Dixon, West Virginia; grandchildren Lauren (Jesse) Tompkins, Nevada, Hayato, Tayato and Sayaka Thew, all of Machesney Park, Illinois, Samantha Jane and Sydney Marie Dixon, both of West Virginia and Aiden Thew, Wyoming; great grandson Ryuto Thew, Machesney Park, Illinois and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Ceremonies will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 14, 2010 in Durand United Methodist Church 102 East Main Street, Durand, Illinois with Pastor Brian Channel, officiating. McCorkle Funeral Home 101 Main Street, Durand, Illinois assisted the family. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 a.m. until time of service Saturday.
