Everett Jay (Doc) Harris Obituary (1925 - 2013)

Everett Jay “Doc” Harris DC, 87, Davis, Illinois died at 8:25 p.m., Tuesday, January 1, 2013 in Medina Manor Nursing Center, Durand, Illinois after a sudden illness. Born April 19, 1925 in Malta, Illinois, the son of Mr. and Mrs. William and Catherine (Harris) Harris. He was a chiropractor in Durand, Illinois for over 50 years. Veteran of WW II serving in the US Navy in the Pacific Theater. He was a member of the Durand American Legion Gold Star Post #676, Prairie State Chiropractic Association, former Durand School Board member, Durand Sanitary Board and was on the planning committee of Rock Valley College. He graduated from Malta High School and Palmer College of Chiropractic, Class of 1947. Survivors include daughters, Kathy (Dale) Strattman, Wichita, Kansas and Marjie Potteiger, Aurora, Illinois; son Michael (Marilyn) Harris, South Beloit, Illinois; grandson, Andrew (Genevieve) Strattman and great grandchildren, Simone and Remington, all of West Jordan, Utah; brother William Harris, Pennsylvania; several nieces and nephews; former wife Sara and special friends, Matt and Betty Sorg and Kathy Lynch. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sister-in-law, Stanley and Jane, Gar and Robert; sisters and brothers-in-law Beatryce and Gerald, Mary and Richard and Doreen and Royal and two sons-in-law, Kenneth Shook and Edward Potteiger. The family would like to express their thanks to the staff of Medina Manor for their kindness extended to their dad Funeral Ceremonies will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 5, 2013 at McCorkle Funeral Home, 101 Main Street, Durand, Illinois with Pastor Margo Peterson, Trinity Lutheran Church, Durand, Illinois officiating. Burial will be in Durand Cemetery, Durand, Illinois. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, January 4.
