Edward A. Johnston Obituary (1955 - 2011)

Edward A. Johnston, 55, Durand, Illinois passed away suddenly on Tuesday, April 26, 2011. Born September 12, 1955 in Kewanee, Illinois, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward and Jo Ann (Allan) Johnston. Married the former Colleen L. Gaffney in Rockford, Illinois on March 31, 1989. He was employed as a District Conservationist for the USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service in Winnebago County. Edward worked for the USDA for 35 years. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Durand, Illinois. He served on the Durand CUSD 322 School Board for 17 years. He was currently president of the school board and had earned and maintained Master Board Member status and was a member of the Leadershop Academy. He graduated from Ottawa High School, Class of 1974. In May 1980, he graduated from Western Illinois University. Survivors include wife, Colleen; daughter Morgan; son Eddie; mother Jo Ann; sister Theresa; brothers Pete (Theresa), Pat (Nancy) and Joe; sisters Sue (Steve) and Julie (Chuck) and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Edward. Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 30, 2011 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 602 West Main Street, Durand, Illinois with Msgr Eric Barr, pastor officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Durand, Illinois. Visitation will be held at McCorkle Funeral Home, 101 Main Street, Durand, Illinois from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, April 29. A scripture service will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. A memorial has been established.
