E. Allene Spelman Obituary (1909 - 2010)

E. Allene Spelman, 101, Durand, Illinois, died at 8:50 a.m., Tuesday, October 26, 2010 in Medina Manor Nursing Center after a short illness. Born October 26, 1909 in Durand, Illinois, the daughter Mr. and Mrs. Allen & Emma (Nelson) Leach. She was a life-long resident of Durand. She married Leo LaVern Spelman in Durand, Illinois on February 12, 1934. Employed as a nurse by OSF St. Anthony Hospital and private duty. Member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Durand, Illinois, Inner Se and bridge clubs. She graduated from Durand High School and St Anthony School of Nursing. Survivors include two sons Thomas (Jill) Spelman, Durand, Illinois and James Spelman, Fenton, Michigan; five grandchildren and five biological and five step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers and one sister. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 29, 2010 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 602 West Main, Durand, Illinois with Msgr. Eric Barr, pastor, officiating and Father Jerome Walsh, Blessed Sacrament Priory, Madison, Wisconsin, co-officiating. Prayers will be held at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. prior to mass. Burial will be in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Durand, Illinois. Visitation will be held at McCorkle Funeral Home 101 Main Street, Durand, Illinois from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., with a scripture service to be held at 7:30 p.m. A memorial will be established.
