Obituary for Chester C. Lynn

Chester C. Lynn 94 of Rockford, IL passed at 8:50 am Thursday July 12, 2018 in Anam Care in Rockford, IL. Chester was born October1, 1923 in Ashland, IL the son of Arthur and Helena G. (Stonestreet) Lynn. Chester married Violet Teske on June 19, 1943 in Raleigh, NC and they were married for 69 years before Violet’s death in 2012.
Chester was a Veteran of World War II and served in the Army-78th Infantry as a light machine-gunner and later joined 82nd Airborne Division as a Pathfinder. He was awarded three Overseas Service Bars, the American Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Distinguished Unit Badge, the World War II Victory medal, a Bronze Arrowhead Lapel Button and a European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon with four Bronze Battle Stars for fighting in the four campaigns: Central Europe, Normandy, Rhineland and Battle of the Bulge-Ardennes-Alsace. Chester was honorably discharged in January of 1946 at Camp Grant, IL.
Chester worked as a machinist for Sundstrand Corporation for 30 years before retiring and moving to live on Red Lake in Wascot, WI to enjoy their retirement. He loved fishing and snowmobiling. Chester was a lifetime member of the Walter Graham American Legion Post #332 and the Moose for many years.
Chester is survived by his two children, Gene (Vicki) Lynn of Rockton and Pattie (Ed) Clifford of Rockford; grandchildren, Paul (Anita) Vanderheyden, Christa (Dan Embertson) Papke and Courtney Lynn; great-grandchildren, Crystal (Jeremy Brauer), Timothy, Caleb, Emma, Jonah and Lily Vanderheyden; Parker and Kayden Papke; great-great grandchildren, Kayleigh and Braden Brauer; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Violet; parents, 8 brothers and 3 sisters.
A Graveside Memorial Ceremony will be held at 11:00 am Thursday July 26, 2018 in Shirland Township Cemetery with Deacon Peter Addotta of OSF Hospice officiating.
The family of Chester Lynn wished to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Cherryvale Place and Anam Care, the caring nurses of OSF Hospice, Beth Charter who played cards with Chester several times per week, and a special thank you to Sukhbalt (Sukhay) Gusred who was Chester’s caregiver for 16 months.
