Betty L. Vaughan Obituary (1927 - 2016)

Betty L. Vaughan, 88, of Rockton, Illinois, died at 12:30 a.m., Sunday, January 24, 2016 in Premier Care in Beloit, Wisconsin after a lengthy illness. She was born February 26, 1927 in Rockford, Illinois to parents Atlee and Anna (White) Stockwell. She attended Rockford Schools. Betty married Everett “Wimpy” Vaughan on January 1, 1947 in Rockford, Illinois. They raised their family and lived in Rockton, Illinois for over 50 years. Betty worked at Atwood for many years, as a waitress in Rockton and as a switchboard operator at the Wagon Wheel. She enjoyed a good card game, playing bingo and going to the casino. Betty loved the Chicago Cubs. She crocheted many beautiful items for her family and friends. Betty treasured time with her children, grandchildren and extended family at cookouts and the holidays. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Premier Care and caregivers for their care and support of Betty. Survivors include her children John (Lisa) Vaughan, Nancy (Chuck) Green, Patricia (special friend Ray) DuBois, Joel (Linda) Vaughan; ten grandchildren; twenty-five great grandchildren; eight great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by parents, husband, two sisters and three brothers. A memorial ceremony will be held at 12:00 p.m., Thursday, January 28, 2016 in McCorkle Funeral Home – Rockton Chapel, 767 N Blackhawk Blvd, Rockton, Illinois with Reverend Matthew Smith officiating. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until time of ceremony Thursday. Cremation Rites to be accorded, with final resting place to be Rockton Township Cemetery.
