Anthony J. Marcello Obituary (1927 - 2016)

Anthony J. Marcello, 88, Durand, Illinois died at 4:47 a.m., Tuesday, April 12, 2016 in Medina Manor Nursing Center. Born August 23, 1927 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph S. and Catherine (Yapelli) Marcello. Married the former Lottie Huber in Chicago, Illinois on November 17, 1950. Veteran of WWII serving in the US Navy. Former head of the Chamber of Commerce in West Chicago and was voted Citizen of the Year in West Chicago. During his tenure with the Chamber of Commerce, he helped to provide many dances and activities for the children and the communities surrounding West Chicago. He and Lottie owned and operated Star Center in West Chicago and Marcello Manor in Batavia. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Durand and a former Durand Lions Club member. Survivors include sons, Richard (Jan Rivette) Marcello, Durand, Illinois and James (Diane) Marcello, Elkhorn, Wisconsin; daughter, Janice Marcello Huber, Durand, Illinois; son, John (Deborah) Marcello, Gilbert, Arizona; Gary Laun, Ballground, Georgia; grandchildren, Jennifer Marcello, Tony (Amanda) Marcello, Anna (Jeremy) Archer, Daryl (Breanna) Jackson, Tonya (Mike) Calkins, Heather (Chris) Chipain, Kristell (Brian) McCorkle, Melody Huber, Jay (Alicia) Huber, Patrick and Ryan Marcello and Sarah Borchart; 24 great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and sisters Mimi and Rena. Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 19, 2016 in St. Mary Catholic Church, 602 W Main Street, Durand, Illinois with Msgr. Michael Tierney officiating. Visitation will be held at McCorkle Funeral Home-Durand Chapel, 101 W Main Street, Durand, Illinois from 4:00 -8:00 p.m., Monday, April 18 with a Scripture Service to be held at 7:30 p.m. Final resting place will be in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Durand, Illinois. Cremation rites will be accorded. Memorials may be given to Alzheimer’s Association, Greater Illinois Chapter, 1111 S. Alpine Road, Suite 307, Rockford, IL 61108
