Obituary for Virgil Raymond Dietmeier

Virgil Raymond Dietmeier, 92, of Durand, IL died at 9:41 a.m., Thursday, August 9, 2018 at Monroe Clinic Hospital, Monroe, WI after a sudden illness.

Born December 6, 1925 in Dakota, IL the son of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd E. and Ruth I. (Cahoon) Dietmeier. He graduated from Orangeville High School, Class of 1943. He married Marjorie P. Kubatzke on February 6, 1946. They farmed between Orangeville and Cedarville for 13 years before moving to the current Dietmeier farm at Durand in 1959, which later became a Conservation Farm of the Year in Winnebago County. They later moved to Lake Summerset and he continued to farm with his son Dan on the farm. Virgil married Margaret Engeriser in 1990 and she preceded him in death on November 15, 2015. Virgil devoted his life to farming. He was a member of the Winnebago Service Company where he served on the board and was a past president and Durand Lions. He sang in the church choir, loved dancing, bowling, playing cards, traveling, most all ice cream, sweets and spending time with his family. The family would like to thank Aster Assisted Living for all the support and care.

Survivors include two daughters Donna Dietmeier, Las Cruces, NM and Diane (David) Silbaugh, Monroe, WI; son Dan (Ginny) Dietmeier, Durand, IL; seven grandchildren Matthew (Christina) Wallace, Heidi (Ronald) Brandt, Heather (York) Ragen, Jeff (Michele) Minder, Corey (Jessica) Silbaugh, Derek (BoKaye) Dietmeier and Lindsay Dietmeier; 12 great grandchildren; mother of his children Marjorie Damon and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Margaret Engeriser Dietmeier and two brothers Donald and Leland.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 25, 2018 in Durand United Methodist Church, 102 E Main Street, Durand, IL with Reverend Jim Ketzel and Reverend David Decker co-officiating. Cremation rites will be accorded. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until time of celebration, Saturday, August 25.
