Obituary for Mary L Mohaupt

Mary L Mohaupt passed away unexpectedly April 7, 2017 from natural causes.

She was born May 25th, 1947 in Davenport, Iowa, to Pearl I. and Robert E. Clevenstine of Rock Island, Illinois. She attended Rock Island public schools and graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University in 1969. She taught school in Kankakee, Illinois before getting married and committing to raising a family.

On February 3, 1973, she married Richard B. Mohaupt in Rock Island and together they built their home in Pecatonica, Illinois. She loved travel, all things wild and had a soft spot for strays. She was an environmental educator and advocate for the outdoors and became a fixture in the northern Illinois volunteer community.

Mary was on several boards and active in a variety of community organizations. She was instrumental in developing the Pecatonica Prairie Path and the Pecatonica Heritage Museum, and was a member of the Pecatonica Women’s Club for decades. She was honored numerous times for her community leadership, including being named 2015 Volunteer of the Year for the Natural Land Institute. She loved her family and was a truly proud Mama and Grandma, involved in two generations of Pecatonica school activities first with her children, then grandkids. The arts and crafts figured strongly in her life. She was an accomplished spinner and weaver, to the point of raising her own black sheep for her wool source.

Mary is survived by her husband Richard and son Shad (Jennifer) and grandchildren Logan and Lauren all of Pecatonica, daughter Annie (Justin Walker) of Chicago, and brothers Emmert (Janet) Clevenstine of Ferney-Voltaire, France, and Bob (Sue) Clevenstine of Rock Island. She was preceded by her parents.

A Memorial Ceremony will be held at 6:00 pm, Wednesday, April 12, 2017 in McCorkle Funeral Home-Countryman Chapel, 529 Washington Street, Pecatonica, IL with Chaplin Mark Maxted officiating.

A gathering of friends will be held at the funeral home from 4:00 pm to time of ceremony Wednesday. Cremation Rites will be Accorded with final resting place to be in Rose Hill Cemetery in rural Pecatonica, IL.
