Obituary for Juanita L. Mulvain

Juanita L. Mulvain, 90, of Durand, IL died Sunday, April 29, 2018 at her home after a courageous fight with cancer. A special thank you to all her friends for their support and prayers and Beloit Regional Hospice for their excellent care provided during her illness.

Born October 1, 1927 to Ernie and Fern (Baxter) Damon. She lived her entire life in Durand, IL. Married Gerald Mulvain on March 1, 1947 in Durand. She was preceded in death by her husband after 66 years of marriage. She grew up on a farm outside of Durand and moved to the town of Durand upon her marriage. Graduated from Durand High School. She had been a member of the Durand United Methodist Church since her birth. She was very active in church activities, including serving as Financial Secretary for 25 years, sang in the church choir and participated in many church activities. Her church was very important to her and she had a very strong faith. In her younger years she taught school in a one room rural Durand school house. During her life she also worked for Winnebago Farm Services, Ingersoll Milling and Machine Company, Durand State Bank, Rosecrance Rural Campus, Hamer Realty, Rockford Structures, Greater Rockford Auto Auction and Tom Harmer Sports. Her favorite past time was attending her husband Jerry’s Durand Merchant Baseball Games which he played in for many years and the Durand Cherubs Ladies Baseball Team that he coached after retiring from playing ball. Both of her daughters played on the team. She was her family’s biggest sports fan for over 50 years. Juanita had a passion for life and couldn’t spend enough time with her family including her husband, daughters, grandkids and great grandkids. She was very pleased when her grandkids and great grandkids all played school sports. She attended all their games and again became their biggest fan. She loved to play cards with her husband and they were active in a card club that went on for over 50 years. She loved to get together with her friends, go out to eat, and sometimes just set out in the yard and visit with the neighborhood people that stopped by on warm summer evenings. Family get-to-gathers were very important to her and her husband, so she would host everyone on holidays, birthdays, etc. Everyone really enjoyed the delicious sit down dinners she prepared for the various family events.

Survivors include her daughters, Vicki Kocher and Linda (Jim) Wise; sister, Daisy Janser; grandsons, Jerry (Bev) Wise and Tom Kocher; granddaughter, Gina (Mike) Zollar; great granddaughters, Cassidy Kocher, Nicole (Melvin) Zollar Frias and Katelyn Wise; great grandsons, Justin Zollar, Taylor Kocher, Jameson Kocher and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gerald, sister Gloria McCullough and son-in-law Bob Kocher.
