Obituary for Esther Ruefer

Esther Ruefer, 89, of Pecatonica, IL died at 2:25 p.m., Tuesday, March 21, 2017 in Anam Care Center, Rockford, after a short illness.

Born November 29, 1927 in Rockford, IL the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald and Marie (Nantista) Wescott. She lived her entire life in Pecatonica. Graduated from Rockford Public Schools and Rockford College. She married Adolph Ruefer in Rockford, Illinois. She was employed by Illinois State Police District #16, where she was the first woman telecommunications operator. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Pecatonica. She loved all animals and often donated both her time and financially to local animal shelters. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Pastor Theiss and Nancy Cook.

Survivors include her son Beda (Rebecca) R. Ruefer; daughters Dawn Falk and Candy (Steve) Sextonson; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; sister Elaine (Willie) Ham and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and best friend Shadow the dog.

Graveside ceremonies will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 25, 2017 in Twelve Mile Grove Cemetery, Pecatonica, IL with Pastor Terry Theiss of St. John’s Lutheran Church officiating. McCorkle Funeral Home-Pecatonica Chapel, 203 W Fifth Street, Pecatonica, IL assisted the family.

Memorials may be given to Noah’s Ark Animal Hospital, 125 S. Madison Street, Rockford, IL 61104
