Obituary for Betty L. Mergen

Betty L. Mergen, 90, of Freeport, IL, died at 8:40 a.m., Wednesday, March 1, 2017 in Lena Living Center after a lengthy illness.
She was born September 6, 1926 in Freeport, IL, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph and Gertrude (Bons) Behrend. Lived 40 years in Rockford, IL coming here from Freeport, IL. Married Donald Mergen in Rockton, IL on December 31, 1974. She was employed as a secretary by Amerock, Camcar and G. C. Electronics, retiring in 1985. Graduated from Freeport High School, Class of 1944.
Survivors include husband Donald of Lena, IL; sons Michael (Terry) McEntee of Coral Springs, FL and Thomas McEntee of Port St. Lucie, FL; daughter Deb (Keith) Hendricks of Machesney Park, IL; step daughters Denise Mergen of Batavia, IL, Laurie Ditsworth of Cedarville, IL, Julie (Mike) Drake of Washington and Jennifer Keep of Freeport, IL; 12 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; brother Ralph (Sandy) Behrend of Bullhead, AZ and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, grandson Corey and son-in-law Larry Ditsworth.
A memorial ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 11, 2017 in McCorkle Funeral Home – Pecatonica Chapel, 203 West 5th Street, Pecatonica, IL with Reverend Katie Voigt officiating. Final Resting place will be in Twelve Mile Grove Cemetery. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until time of ceremony Saturday, March 11.
